Dear Middle School Students/Parents,
Welcome to my inaugural magazine project! English class students in the middle school will be involved in an extensive writing experience throughout the next several weeks – the Magazine Unit!
Each student will take on the role of journalist, editor, and advertiser while creating his/her own and original magazine. This writing experience will extend throughout the 4th quarter and is a compilation of your son or daughter’s work this school year.
Grades for any progress reports throughout the next several weeks will be based on the progress completion checks and deadlines, research paper submitted on April 5, and in-class assignments.
This unit allows students to be creative while developing writing, research, computer, and persuasive writing skills. Throughout this project, students will create and write a feature article, interview story, editorial, compare/contrast article, advertisements, and advice columns.
Attached to this letter you will find a very helpful timeline. This will inform you and your student of what will be taking place in class each day for the term of this project, and it will keep you informed of all “soft”. It is extremely important that students do not fall behind in their story deadlines. Anything you can do at home to help with this will be very beneficial to your student.
To begin this unit, students are asked to bring magazines to school that coincide with the magazine theme they select for their project. In addition, students need to purchase a binder/folder to store their magazine.
Please email or call me with any questions or concerns. Please sign the bottom of this sheet and return the bottom only to me by Friday, April 5. I am looking forward to an exciting learning experience for your child as we conclude the school year.
